Lane Kiffin Collects Six-Figure Bonus After Ole Miss’ Win In College Football Playoff

Lane Kiffin’s exit from Ole Miss to take the LSU job wasn’t the prettiest, but he is still reaping the rewards of his success in Oxford.

As a result of accepting the LSU job just one day after Ole Miss’ regular season finale, Kiffin was not allowed by the Rebels to coach them in the College Football Playoff despite the fact that he pleaded to do so. However, following the win by the No. 6-seed Rebels over the No. 11-seed Tulane Green Wave on Saturday, Kiffin still received a bonus.

Led by quarterback Trinidad Chanbliss, who completed 23-of-29 passes for 282 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns, Ole Miss won 41-10. As a result of the victory, Kiffin netted a $250,000 bonus as a part of his contract with LSU, according to ESPN.

“Despite not coaching the Rebels in the CFP, Lane Kiffin still benefits from their win against Tulane, according to a term sheet obtained by ESPN,” wrote ESPN College Football on X.

As revealed by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Kiffin’s seven-year deal at LSU, which will see him earn $13 million, also included language that allowed the new head coach to be paid based on how well Ole Miss does.

“Lane Kiffin’s contract with LSU includes the unique clause that he will receive a payment equal to the amount he would have earned for coaching Ole Miss in the upcoming College Football Playoff, according to a term sheet obtained by ESPN on Monday,” wrote Rittenberg.

While it’s unclear if Kiffin was trolling or actually meant it, he did take to X to congratulate Ole Miss and new head coach Pete Golding on the win.

“Congrats to all the coaches and players @OleMissFB and especially @CoachGolding and seeing his 2 boys on the sidelines 💙❤️ Great win today,” wrote Kiffin. “#1-0. #BeatGeorgiaInTheBoot 🇹🇹.”

The Rebels will face off against the No. 3-seed Georgia Bulldogs on Jan. 1 in the Sugar Bowl. According to the ESPN report, Kiffin can make as much as $1 million if the Rebels were to go on and win the title. So, while Kiffin may want to root for his former players, he may also have a bit of extra motivation.
