Following the Georgia Bulldogs' 20-17 road win over the Alabama Crimson Tide, Alabama fans threw trash on the field. Alabama fans were upset after officials missed a pass interference on a Georgia defensive back late in the game.
Alabama fans also targeted Georgia players with their trash. The trash primarily was bottles, some of which still had liquid.
After the no-call, Georgia went on to control the ball to run out the clock. The Bulldogs benefited from a late Alabama penalty on defensive back Dijon Lee that allowed Georgia to run out the clock.
"We preach emotional maturity, and I really feel strong that across the board we had that with our team and would've never expected that to happen," DeBoer said after the loss. "You got to give yourself a chance.
"You're out there giving everything you got. You just got to give yourself a chance. And so, emotional maturity is what it comes down to. And we've been pretty good at that going on the last two years. Obviously, the moment comes up like we had just now, we didn't respond the right way."
In a response to Alabama fans throwing trash, Georgia players wore helmets upon exiting the field as a way of protection. The Bulldogs walked off the field with their first win at Alabama since 2007. It is just unfortunate to see fans resorting to that sort of behavior.
This is not the first time opposing fans have thrown trash on the field during one of Georgia's big road wins in the SEC. Texas fans did it a couple of years ago in 2024.
Texas was fined $250,000 for the incident and fans caught throwing trash weren't allowed to attend a game for the rest of the season. We'd expect Alabama to face a similar punishment from the SEC.
