Lane Kiffin and LSU suffered an upset loss against the Kentucky Wildcats, but it was the scenes right after the game that have drawn the ire of one analyst.
Kentucky fans stormed the field the moment QB Kenny Minchey ran into the end zone to complete the two-point play to win the game in overtime.
Several Kentucky fans surrounded LSU coach Lane Kiffin as he tried to walk off the field to troll him, with the controversial Tigers coach trying his best not to get provoked.
OutKick’s Jon Root labels Kentucky Wildcats fans ‘sore winners’ after Lane Kiffin incident
Taking to X, OutKick analyst Jon Root called out Kentucky Wildcats fans for trying to heckle and troll LSU Tigers coach Lane Kiffin.
While Root didn’t have a problem with them wanting to celebrate, he believes they were disrespecting an all-time great coach with their antics.
“This is the definition of sore winners. Talk your c*** after an upset, but this behaviour from these Kentucky students to LSU’s Lane Kiffin is disgusting & inappropriate.”
There is some merit to the argument, as the fans had no reason to get as close to Kiffin during their celebration and mock the LSU coach.
Kiffin is one of the most polarising figures in college football and is disliked by many fans outside of LSU, so this reaction isn’t exactly a surprise.
However, for these fans to get as close to him as possible to heckle and hurl insults and possibly aim obscenities at Kiffin is definitely out of line.
After the game, Kiffin didn’t do much to disavow this act by Wildcats fans, suggesting that he didn’t feel a line was crossed, or rather, that he paid no mind to the heckling from them as he walked off the field.
Of course, after back-to-back losses in OT, Kiffin probably had far more pressing matters to attend to than lashing out at rival fans for celebrating a win in front of him.
