The Tennessee Volunteers lost a UT legacy recruit to the Alabama Crimson Tide earlier this month. It looks like the Vols could be in danger of losing another key in-state recruit to the Tide.

The Tennessee Vols could be in danger of losing another key in-state recruit to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Earlier this month, 2027 four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II, the son of former Vols linebacker Kevin Simon, committed to Alabama over Tennessee.

Simon, 6-foot-2/210 pounds from Brentwood, TN, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 6 player in the state of Tennessee.

“Clearly he was more comfortable at Alabama,” said VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs of Simon’s decision. “And he felt like his opportunities for growth and development, not just as an athlete, but as a student on that campus, [are best at Alabama]. And that’s a place where he wants to establish his roots and create his legacy.

Alabama believes they lead for another 4-star defensive recruit from Tennessee

Alabama and Tennessee are both pursuing 2027 four-star EDGE Antwan Jackson.

And Alabama is confident they’re currently leading for the talented pass rusher.

“Antwan Jackson is another major target Alabama believes it leads for entering the weekend,” reported On3’s Chad Simmons on Wednesday. “The pass rusher out of Tennessee continues returning to Tuscaloosa, and (Bama outside linebackers coach) Christian Robinson has done a strong job throughout the process.”

Tennessee hosted Jackson this past weekend on a visit, and it went well according to VolQuest’s Austin Price.

“I thought Tennessee did well with Antwan Jackson, a kid out of Collierville — the Memphis area,” said Price Wednesday on WNML’s Josh and Swain. “That’s a Tennessee vs Alabama battle. Ole Miss is also in play there as we head into official visits. But [Tennessee] got him onto campus this past weekend, and they’ll get him on campus the last weekend — that’s June 19 — for his official visit.”

Official visits will play a big role in determining who wins the battle for Jackson, but it’s clear that Alabama and Tennessee are both hoping to land the West Tennessee native.

We’ll see in the coming weeks if the Vols can avoid losing a second in-state player to the Crimson Tide.
