The Oklahoma Sooners are in the middle of their bye week, with a date against the Texas Longhorns on the horizon. In seven days, Oklahoma will travel to Dallas to face their Red River rivals, with their College Football Playoff hopes on the line.
Oklahoma hopes to come out of the bye week with renewed efficiency and execution on offense. An offseason spent building around quarterback John Mateer, along with an emphasis on improving the running game, hasn't really paid dividends in 2026. The Sooners have one of the worst offenses in the Power Four. There's talent on the roster. However, it hasn't been able to shine as Mateer has struggled against a trio of good defenses the last few weeks.
Despite the struggles on game day, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables and the staff have belief that the Mateer they see in practice will show up on Saturdays to give the Sooners their best shot to win.
Will see if Mateer can reward the confidence of the coaching staff by putting his best foot forward over the last eight games of the season. Because if the offense can get it figured out, the Sooners have a defense ready to contend. But that's a big if.
Although the Oklahoma Sooners aren't playing, there are some fantastic matchups to enjoy, highlighted by the SEC matchup between the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
