Three-star defensive back Nash Johnson recently decommitted from Alabama, which paves the way for Auburn to return to the forefront of his recruitment.

Johnson, a three-star cornerback from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, backed off his pledge to Alabama on Wednesday, and Auburn is one of the top schools that could take advantage of the recent development. Chad Simmons of Rivals listed Auburn as one of the four schools now in a race for Johnson’s signature, joining College Football Playoff participants Ole Miss and Miami, and SEC rival Tennessee.

Johnson was offered by head coach Alex Golesh during his time at USF, and was recently welcomed to the Plains for a visit. He told Rivals that he enjoyed talking with Auburn cornerbacks coach Demarcus Van Dyke during his time in Auburn.

“Coach Demarcus Van Dyke walked us through the basics of being a cornerback, and I liked that a lot,” Johnson said.

Johnson is the No. 71 cornerback from the 2027 cycle and the No. 89 player from Georgia. According to 247Sports, Johnson will officially visit Miami, Tennessee, and Ole Miss in June, but does not have one set for Auburn at this time.
