Auburn football has been on a disappointing trend of missing a bowl game in two straight seasons and has appeared in just one postseason game since the 2022 season. One outlet expects that trend to continue in 2026.
Bill Bender of The Sporting News published his 2026-27 postseason predictions on Wednesday, omitting the Auburn Tigers from his bowl outlook. Bender predicts that 11 SEC teams will earn postseason bids, whether it be a bowl game or the College Football Playoff. However, Auburn is not included in the mix.
Alex Golesh takes over as head coach of the Auburn Tigers in 2026, hoping to right the ship for a program that has lost seven games in each of the last five seasons. Most Auburn fans are hungry for quick success under Golesh, and a bowl game appearance will certainly create a buzz, especially since the Tigers' SEC slate features College Football Playoff contenders such as Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and LSU.
Auburn hopes to prove this forecast wrong. However, if they do not, it will mark the third straight season the Auburn Tigers have missed a bowl game, which has not happened since the early 1990s when Auburn missed bowl season for four straight seasons between 1991 and 1994. Auburn was on a postseason ban for the 1993 and 1994 seasons, and won five games each in 1991 and 1992. Auburn is also on a four-bowl game losing streak, with its last win coming in 2018 when the Tigers concluded the season with a 63-14 win over Purdue in the Music City Bowl.
