Auburn bolstered its 2027 recruiting class on Monday by landing a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Rance Brown, who chose the Tigers over SEC rival Kentucky. Brown announced his decision on CBS Sports after drawing interest from Indiana, Tennessee, Stanford, North Carolina, Maryland, Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Arizona.
Originally from Gadsden, Alabama, Brown recently transferred to Brentwood Academy in Tennessee ahead of his senior season. The 6-foot-6 lineman is listed between 290 and 320 pounds across recruiting services and is regarded as one of the top offensive tackle prospects in the 2027 class. Brown is rated as the No. 1,101 overall player nationally, the No. 85 offensive tackle, and the No. 41 prospect in Tennessee, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Other rankings place him as high as the No. 69 offensive tackle nationally and No. 37 player from Tennessee.
Shortly after Brown transferred to Brentwood Academy this spring, Auburn extended an offer that shifted the direction of his recruitment. The Tigers quickly became the favorite, with the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine giving Auburn a 96 percent chance to land him before his announcement.
The longtime Tigers fan made multiple visits to campus during the process, including trips in the spring and for Big Cat Weekend. He reportedly visited Auburn six times overall, with each trip strengthening his relationship with new head coach Alex Golesh and offensive line coach Tyler Hudanick. Assistant coaches Parker Ball, Chris Kapilovic, and Micah James also played roles in his recruitment.
Brown becomes the Tigers ninth commitment in the 2027 class and the third offensive line pledge alongside four-star tackle Layton von Brandt and three-star lineman Jaylon Moore. Following Brown’s commitment, Auburn’s 2027 recruiting class climbed into the mid-20s nationally, moving from No. 30 to No. 25 in the 247Sports team rankings while also sitting inside the top 25 of the On3 national rankings.
