Auburn's Byrum Brown joins several SEC QBs on preseason watchlist

Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown is one of 27 quarterbacks from across the country to be included on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award preseason watchlist.

The compact list features Brown, in addition to several SEC counterparts including LSU's Sam Leavitt, Texas' Arch Manning, Georgia's Gunner Stockton, Oklahoma's John Mateer, and Texas A&M's Marcel Reed. The Golden Arm Award is awarded annually to "the top upperclassman quarterback in college football who displays excellence on the field, character, leadership, and scholastic achievement." Five quarterbacks from the SEC have won the award since 2019.

Brown was the lone quarterback in college football last season to pass for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards last season, doing so with the USF Bulls. This season, Brown joins Auburn's roster as a senior, hoping to mimick those numbers against challenging SEC defenses. The goal will be daunting, but Brown will be as comfortable as possible with the Auburn Tigers as his head coach, offensive coordinator, and four of his top five receivers from last season's incredible performance will join him on the Plains.

For Brown, this is his second preseason award watchlist nod. He joins running back Jeremiah Cobb on the Maxwell Award watchlist in addition to his plethora of other preseason honors from The Athletic and CBS Sports.
