Allar, drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, is the No. 16 wearer on the roster.

Best No. 16 in Steelers history: QB Charlie Batch

The countdown to kickoff brings us to one of the most beloved backup quarterbacks in Steelers history: Charlie Batch.

Batch, drafted by the Detroit Lions with the 60th overall pick in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft, spent his first four years in the Motor City before getting released at the end of the 2001 season.

A Pittsburgh native with Yinzer blood running through his veins, Batch quickly signed with the Steelers after his departure from Detroit and immediately became a fan favorite thanks to his Steel City roots.

From 2003 to 2012, Batch served as a reliable backup for the Steelers, winning six out of nine starts while throwing for 2,069 yards and 12 touchdowns. A two-time Super Bowl champion, Batch more than deserves the recognition of being named the best Steeler to ever wear No. 16.
