Best social media reactions to Colorado's ugly Texas Tech loss

Watching the Colorado Buffaloes play football feels like "Groundhog Day" in Boulder. The same issues that plagued the 3-9 2025 team are hurting this year's squad. Penalties, special teams mistakes, poor coaching and poor quarterback play have led to three straight losses.

Even in Colorado's lone winning season under Sanders in 2024, undisciplined play and occasional coaching lapses held the program back. Three straight losses, all with Colorado outgaining its opponent, including its 29-7 loss to Texas Tech when the Buffs held a 7-3 lead at halftime, have put the program at an inflection point.

Rightfully so, Colorado fans are getting impatient watching the same thing over and over again and, most importantly, not seeing it fixed. That was especially evident on Saturday evening following the loss to Texas Tech.

Here are the best social media reactions from Buff Nation, media and former players after Colorado fell to Texas in Week 5.

It all started so well

BANG. Now THAT looked like the GoGo.

Phenomenal opening drive from Brennan Marion. An absolute ripperoo from Isaac Wilson on Colorado’s first 3rd Down of the game to JoJo Williams for 6. Marched right down the field.

The first drive was beautiful; everything else was not

Isaac Wilson hits Joseph Williams for an 8-yard TD pass.
First drive for Isaac Wilson:
🦬3-of-4 passing for 54 yards
🦬1 rush for 10 yards
🦬2 catches for 7 yards
He is CU's leading passer, rusher and receiver.
Colorado 7, Texas Tech 0, 10:29 to go in the 1st#cubuffs

Isaac Wilson was on point

Surgical first drive from Isaac Wilson 😟

— LockedOnBuffs (@LockedOnBuffs) October 3, 2026

Embarrassing moment No. 1

#CUBuffs forced to call a timeout ahead of a 50+ yard FG attempt by Texas Tech. Buffs had nowhere near 11 guys on the field. Special teams issues again…

— Tyler King (@King_TylerB) October 3, 2026

First quarter wasn't bad either

Isaac Wilson is over 100 yards passing with four minutes left in the first quarter.

— Eli Whitney (@eliwhtney17) October 4, 2026

Special teams issues mount

Colorado special teams so far today:

– Only 8 players on the field for FG block

– Missed FG

– Failed fake punt

It’s only the 2nd quarter

— DNVR Buffs (@DNVR_Buffs) October 4, 2026

It has to be fixed, but somehow hasn't been

Deion Sanders and special teams man. It’s truly unbelievable this is the same issue every week!

— Jake Shapiro (@Shapalicious) October 4, 2026

An atrocious call

I know the offense has opened up more with Wilson but Colorado has to stay committed to their running game.

Oh my god. A fake punt with THIS special teams unit? Are we for real? What an awful call.

— Mat Smith (@RealMatSmith) October 4, 2026

Defensive was flying around the field

Colorado’s defense has come up HUGE in the first half here. Another massive fourth down stop. Offense has to pick back up.

— Mat Smith (@RealMatSmith) October 4, 2026

We were thinking something special was brewing at halftime

Good note from Pat Graham of the AP: This is Colorado's first halftime lead against an FBS opponent in more than a year (Sept. 27, 2025, vs. BYU). #cubuffs

— Brian Howell (@BrianHowell33) October 4, 2026

Lack of discipline is a big problem every year

Wow, RJ Johnson gets a nice PBU and then hit with a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct for taunting.
There's that lack of discipline for CU that shows up every week #cubuffs

— Brian Howell (@BrianHowell33) October 4, 2026

A bit too predictable with the WR pass

Marion button mashing that WR pass 😭 pic.twitter.com/EXm85j02pa

— Mat Smith (@RealMatSmith) October 4, 2026

It was a terrible call

I can’t get over how bad of a call this is. Game changing call. Just so bad. https://t.co/lD8rmdiI6E

— Ross Brenner (@_Ross_Brenner_) October 4, 2026

Bring back the grass field

Imagine putting turf on this glorious stadium, disgusting.

— Tyler Ziskin (@TZiskBuffs) October 4, 2026

Could not have said it better myself

Colorado's defense is good enough to make the Buffs a Big 12 contender. Colorado's offense is dreadful enough to make that not matter. #cubuffs

— Brian Howell (@BrianHowell33) October 4, 2026

The interceptions were brutal

Colorado’s 3 INTs tonight have led to 12 of Texas Tech’s 15 points.

That’s the difference in this game right now.

— Scott Procter (@ScottProcter_) October 4, 2026

Can we field punts, please?

Boo Carter lets the punt go and Colorado’s drive will start on their own 2.

55 yard punt.

Special teams just a joke.

— Jake Schwanitz (@JakeDNVR) October 4, 2026

Just an unfortunate reality

Unironically at least 13 points directly attributable to special teams

— Folsom Frenzy Podcast (@FolsomFrenzyPod) October 4, 2026

A good question for all involved

Brennan Marion… WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?

— Jake Shapiro (@Shapalicious) October 4, 2026

Disasters is the correct word

Isaac Wilson hurt at the end of the game now.

A disaster of a football game.

— Jake Schwanitz (@JakeDNVR) October 4, 2026

Not going to cut in whatsoever

Colorado’s offense against P4 opponents this year:

Georgia Tech: 14 points
Northwestern: 7 points
Baylor: 13 points
Texas Tech: 7 points pic.twitter.com/4nPfji4zXX

— Folsom Frenzy Podcast (@FolsomFrenzyPod) October 4, 2026

Thoughts on this, Buff fans?

If Deion Sanders won't name a Special Teams Coordinator this week — Fernando Lovo should name a new head coach

— Jake Shapiro (@Shapalicious) October 4, 2026

If it stays like this, can you even run it back?

We beat ourselves every single week and somehow we will run this back next year.

We’re just as pathetic as we’ve ever been.

— Tyler Ziskin (@TZiskBuffs) October 4, 2026

Santana Hopper: a major bright spot

Colorado DL Santana Hopper was everywhere tonight.

10 total tackles (game-high)
5 TFLs
4 QB hits

Baller.

— Scott Procter (@ScottProcter_) October 4, 2026

Very true and very disappointing

Chris Marve and Brenden Marion are both doing everything they can to make sure they aren’t in Boulder next year.

Both for different reasons.
