It's safe to say that morale around the Michigan Wolverines program is close to an all-time low right now. After the shocking Sherrone Moore saga, the Wolverines have gone through plenty of turbulence, sending ripples throughout the program.

With the search for Sherrone Moore's replacement as head coach falling apart and venturing close to disaster and the athletic department being fully investigated by an independent law firm, the Michigan Wolverines are in for some rough holidays ahead as they try and right the ship after weeks of rocky waves.

Biff Poggi dishes on the state of the Wolverines

Interim head coach Biff Poggi, in a way that only he can, spoke about where Michigan is right now during his press conference on Monday morning. When asked about what he would change if he were in charge of Michigan, Poggi made a quip about wanting "a Maize and Blue Batman suit he could wear everyday" before sobering up and delivering an explosive take on the state of the team.

"Obviously it has been five years of — let's just call what it is — a malfunctioning organization where there's something every year. I know what the Athletic Director has made very clear. He doesn't want any more of that. And so if I am named a coach, which again, I don't know if I am, but there will be a massive self-examination of what happens in this building. And you can expect a lot of changes."

A "malfunctioning organization where there's something every year" is a pretty apt way to describe what Michigan is going through right now. This is the third different sport to get hit with some sort of scandal in the last few years, and another saga in what has been a scandal-ridden three year period for the football program. Who knows who would want to stick around to deal with another year or two of this?

The Connor Stalions fiasco hung over Michigan's 2023 title run. Former co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss has been accused by the FBI for hacking into databases to find photographs of college-aged women while inside the Michigan facility. Former Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson was hit with a 3-year show-cause by the NCAA as part of the Stalions scandal. Sherrone Moore was suspended for his role in the scandal this season.

Poggi said everything in the program has to be evaluated because, quite frankly, it does. The Wolverines need to clean house and re-evaluate how they move forward and leave this mess behind, because otherwise, they are going to be stuck in this cycle of scandal, reducing the prestige of one of the best programs in college football to a job that currently seems untouchable.

What. A. Mess.
