Notre Dame remains hot on the recruiting trail by landing a commitment from big time wide receiver Julius Jones Jr. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas star picked Notre Dame over Miami (Fla.) and Oregon, and he gives the Irish an elite talent at a position of need.
Jones has been a top target for the Notre Dame coaching staff for almost two years, ever since he started dominating for the Raiders. The Irish hosted Jones for an important visit in the spring, and that is when things started trending in a good direction. There was always a connection to the Notre Dame program, but that spring visit was when Jones saw that the offense was trending in a direction that was well suited to his dynamic game. Coming out of that visit Notre Dame became the team to beat, and that never changed.
Landing Jones gives the Irish a dynamic future weapon for the pass game. The 5-10, 175-pound receiver has elite tools, and he's shown that for two seasons at St. Thomas Aquinas. He is an explosive athlete that has the suddenness to be impactful after the catch and has the speed to blow past defenders. Jones ran a 10.52 in the 100-meter dash this spring, and you can see that speed show up on film. His acceleration is space is outstanding, and his vision combines with his quickness to make him electric with the ball in his hands. Despite his lack of ideal size, Jones has big time pass catching skills thanks to tremendous concentration and strong hands.
As a junior, Jones hauled in 58 passes for 876 yards (15.1 YPC) and 14 touchdowns while leading St. Thomas Aquinas to a state championship victory. Jones was at his best in some of the biggest moments of the season. He kicked off the 2025 season with a 6-catch, 72-yard performance in a matchup against national powerhouse Mater Dei (Calif.). Jones caught two touchdowns in the semi-final victory over Riverdale and he caught seven passes for 126 yards in the state title win over Lakeland.
Jones grades out as a Top 50 caliber prospect (4.5 star rating) on the Irish Breakdown board and he has an easy 5.0-star upside grade. He is also ranked as the nation's No. 50 overall player in the country by ESPN and No. 84 overall by Rivals/On3.
Notre Dame, Miami and Oregon were just some of the big time schools to offer Jones. He also earned offers from Ohio State, LSU, Florida, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Florida State, Tennessee, Indiana, Penn State, Auburn, Missouri, UCLA, NC State, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, West Virginia, Syracuse and Colorado among others.
The St. Thomas Aquinas standout is the second wide receiver to commit to Notre Dame in the 2027 class, joining Highlands Ranch, Colo./Valor Christian big man Jackson Coleman. He's also the fourth player from Florida to pick the Irish, joining safety and St. Thomas Aquinas teammate Zayden Gamble.

He joins Florida quarterback Champ Monds, Texas running back Lathan Whisenton, Massachusetts running back Isaiah Rogers, Coleman, Oklahoma tight end Titus Hawk, New Jersey offensive lineman Olu Olubobola, Pennsylvania offensive lineman James Halter, Wisconsin lineman Richie Flanigan, California offensive lineman Jackson Hill, Pennsylvania defensive end Abraham Sesay, New Jersey defensive end Jackson Vaughn, New Jersey defensive end Aidan O'Neil, Illinois defensive tackle David Folorunsho, North Carolina cornerback Xavier Hasan, Ohio cornerback Ace Alston, Gamble, Florida nickel John Gay III and North Carolina long snapper Sean Kraft.
