The UCLA football team welcomed San Diego State to the Rose Bowl on Saturday evening for the Bruins' home opener, which UCLA won 28-10 to remain unbeaten.

After the game, Bruins head coach Bob Chesney spoke to the media about what it was like walking through the tunnel to enter the Rose Bowl for the first time.

“It was cool to walk through here. I showed our team a little video on the Rose Bowl. We showed them a video about what it means to play here," Chesney recalled Saturday. "I wanted them to have a full understanding of what it means to play here. Back from the historical perspective with (Maurice Jones-Drew) with the punt return against San Diego State. I think our guys all understood that. I think that our guys all understood that but it wasn't about that history. It was about making our own for their first game.

"(Wayne Knight) plays football the right way and I love watching him be patient and then he waits for it and when he sees it he just gets up to full speed within two or three steps and, you know, again, that's nothing we haven't seen you know before. He means a lot to this team.”

UCLA (2-0) will be back at the Rose Bowl on Saturday at 8 p.m. to play Purdue (1-1) in Big Ten action.
