Oklahoma Lands Four-Star Tight End Connor Arant from Bixby in 2028 Class

Big day for the Oklahoma Sooners as they continue building the 2028 class. Four-star tight end Connor Arant from Bixby High School has committed to OU, telling Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett, “I’m home, BOOMER SOONER.”

Arant is a big, physical tight end listed at 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, and he’s already turning heads as a junior. Three games into the season he’s caught three passes for 44 yards, but the real strength of his game right now is as a run blocker.

That kind of size and toughness at the tight end position is exactly what programs look for when they’re trying to control the line of scrimmage.

According to Rivals, Arant ranks as the No. 315 overall prospect nationally, the No. 15 tight end in the country, and the No. 3 player in the state of Oklahoma. Those are strong rankings for a 2028 guy who’s still early in his junior year, and the offer list shows just how highly he’s regarded.

He chose the Sooners over a long list of big-time programs that includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and several others.

One of the biggest factors in this decision was clearly the hiring of Jason Witten as Oklahoma’s tight ends coach. Witten’s playing career and reputation carry a lot of weight with high school tight ends and their families. Having a coach of that caliber in the room making the pitch makes a difference, and it looks like it paid off here.

This commitment also continues a nice pipeline from Bixby. The Spartans have been the most dominant high school program in the state, winning eight consecutive state championships across two different classifications (6AI and 6AII). Oklahoma already has a commitment in the 2027 class from Bixby’s five-star offensive tackle Kaeden Penny. Now Arant gives the Sooners back-to-back classes with a Spartan on the roster.

There’s also growing talk that four-star interior offensive lineman Gavin Wilson, another Bixby product, could end up in Norman as well. Multiple recruiting experts have logged predictions for him leaning toward Oklahoma. If that happens, the Sooners would be stacking high-end talent from one of the best programs in the state.

For the 2028 class, landing a tight end of Arant’s size and ranking this early is a solid foundation piece. He’s still developing as a pass-catcher, but the blocking ability and frame give him a high floor. As he continues to grow into his body and refine the receiving part of his game over the next couple of years, he has the tools to become a versatile piece in Oklahoma’s offense.

Recruiting is always fluid, especially with 2028 prospects, but this feels like a natural fit. Local kid, dominant high school program, strong rankings, and a coaching staff that made him feel at home.

Sooner fans should be encouraged by the continued in-state success and the early movement in this class. Adding size and toughness at tight end while keeping the Bixby connection alive is a smart way to build.
