Going into Utah and pulling Kaysville (UT) Davis four-star athlete Bode Sparrow away from in-state programs like BYU and Utah was always going to be a task for Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables.
Fortunately for Sooner fans, that was a task that Venables and the rest of the Oklahoma coaching staff was up for.
Sparrow announced his commitment to Oklahoma on Friday afternoon, June 26, choosing the Sooners over BYU, Oregon and Utah.
247Sports ranks the 6-foot-2, 195-pounder as the No. 82 overall player, No. 7 athlete and No. 1 player in Utah for the 2027 cycle.
The USA TODAY High School Sports composite ranking, a ranking based on the composite rankings from industry leaders, has Sparrow as the No. 75 overall player in the class and No. 5 athlete.
Sparrow has been a two-way star for the Darts for three seasons now.
He broke onto the scene as a freshman, catching 69 passes for 842 yards and 10 touchdowns. The next season as a sophomore, he caught 61 passes for 994 yards and 16 touchdowns on offense to go along with 59 tackles and nine interceptions on defense.
Last season, he caught 83 passes for 1,218 yards and 16 touchdowns as a receiver while also recording 71 tackles, seven interceptions and three pass breakups at safety.
Oklahoma solidifies an already stout top 5 class.
Sparrow’s pledge to the Sooners is just the latest recruiting win for a class that is the best Oklahoma has had in the last few cycles.
247Sports ranked Oklahoma’s class No. 4 prior to Sparrow’s commitment. He now sits as their fifth highest-rated commitment so far in the cycle and fifth top 100 commitment.
The four players ranked above him are Mustang (OK) five-star cornerback Gabriel Osborne Jr., Bixby (OK) five-star offensive tackle Kaeden Penny, Boyle County (Danville, KY) four-star tight end Seneca Driver and Liberty Christian (Argyle, TX) four-star linebacker Cooper Witten, the son of former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten.
Oklahoma now has 26 commitments in its 2027 class. Of those 26 commitments, 12 rank as four-star prospects or better.
