Brian Kelly Gives Odd Assessment About Syracuse Football's Home Field Advantage

NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...

Beginning this Friday, I will be out covering training camp involving for this years version of the Syracuse football team. The Orange hold their practices at the Ensley Athletic Center, a facility that gives Syracuse the opportunity to practice both indoors and outdoors. The home arena for Orange regular season football games is the JMA Wireless Dome.

Formerly known as the Carrier Dome and nicknamed "The Dome" by locals, the arena became known as the JMA Wireless Dome in 2022. The Orange will have six home games this upcoming season.

Sept 5. New Hampshire.

Sept 12. California

Oct 17. Louisville

Oct. 30 SMU

Nov. 6 Clemson

Nov. 28 Notre Dame

It's seen as a difficult schedule, given that many of those teams are predicted to have good seasons themselves. SMU was picked second in the ACC media poll and Notre Dame is always part of the national conversation.

In past years, coaches across the country have noted how loud the stadium can get when 40,000 plus fans are making noise. However one legendary college coach offered a strange assessment on the JMA Wireless Dome's advantage for the Notre Dame game this November.

Who is Brian Kelly?

Kelly has won 297 games in his career which ranks in the top 15 all-time in college history. In more than 20 seasons as a head coach at the FBS level, the 64 year old Kelly had stints as the head coach at Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Notre Dame and most recently, LSU.

This season, Kelly is serving as an analyst for CBS Sports.

What did Brian Kelly say about Syracuse's home field advantage?

In a video posted by the CBS Sports College Football account, Kelly offered his insight on the upcoming Notre Dame schedule. In the November matchup, Kelly said this about the game scheduled to be played at the JMA Wireless Dome

"I've been there. It is a difficult place to play especially in November. The snow has already hit. Notre Dame will win the game and go undefeated."

Why Kelly's assessment of the JMA Wireless Dome is so odd

It seems as if Kelly thinks that the JMA Wireless Dome in an outside venue rather than a domed indoor venue. Although his assessment of Central New York may be correct in that snow may be outside by late November, the weather of a domed venue would certainly have no impact on the action during the game.

Hmmm….
