According to court records obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Brittney Griner filed for divorce Thursday in Fulton County Superior Court. The filing states that her marriage to Cherelle Griner is “irretrievably broken.” The couple married in 2019, though the court filing reportedly lists the marriage date as 2018. They share a 2-year-old son. Court documents state the pair separated on July 24. Griner is asking the court for an equitable division of marital property and for custody-related matters involving their child to be resolved through the legal process.
Neither Brittney Griner’s attorneys nor her agent immediately commented on the filing. Cherelle Griner also had not publicly responded as of Friday. The filing comes months after Griner completed her first season with the Atlanta Dream.
