The Cleveland Browns have waived tight end Dae’Quan Wright, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. If he clears waivers without being picked up, Wright has an agreement in place for the 2026 season to play for LSU, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Kyle Lincoln.
This is NFL history as Wright is the first player who recorded stats in the league before then going back to play in college. What was once thought as insane is now a reality. There are a handful of players currently on NFL rosters who will follow Wright's lead. Some have already been cut and were on camp rosters. There are others from the same group in the transfer portal waiting for an opportunity.
Wright is expected to be reunited with his former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, who jumped to LSU before the end of last season. Wright is the first to fully commit to a college team again. This news comes as many athletes are testing the fifth-year transfer waters in both football and basketball.

Wright heads back to college with a third stop on the books. He played two years at Virginia Tech before transferring to Ole Miss in 2024. The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder racked up 113 receptions for 1,603 yards and nine touchdowns over the course of his career.
The immediate addition of Wright gives LSU a boost right before the season. He's not only heading to Baton Rouge to be with Kiffin, but he'll be working on the offensive game plan for Charlie Weis Jr and his scheme. The same one ran at Ole Miss all the way through the team's College Football Playoff run last season.
LSU opens the season against Clemson before a marquee SEC matchup in Week 3 with Ole Miss. Both games will be featured on ABC.
