Buckle up in week two as the Ohio State Buckeyes head down to Austin, Texas, to take on the Longhorns in what will again be a matchup between two top-five teams in the country.
These two fanbases and teams have been rivals of each other from arm's length for a very long time. Ohio State fans kept their eye on Texas, and Texas fans the same until three years ago.
In the 2024 playoffs, the Buckeyes and Longhorns locked up in the College Football Playoff Semifinal in what would become one of the most iconic games in Ohio State History.
That was the first game in what would be a three-game stretch that has been awesome for the Buckeyes and awesome for college football.
In week one last year, the very first kickoff of week one was between these two teams in Columbus. It was a Big Noon Kickoff matchup that featured so many storylines for two teams that were trying to get back to the Playoffs with brand new quarterbacks.
It was a heavyweight fight around the lines of scrimmage, and the Buckeyes made just one more play than Texas, thanks to Carnell Tate, in order to get the 14-7 victory.
The game was filled with excitement, but it ultimately didn't live up to the expectations that were set for it. It also proved to be very impactful later in the year when Texas was left out of the playoffs.
Round three of the rivalry takes place inside the legendary DKR Memorial Stadium in what will be a primetime kickoff. This round should be the most exciting of them all.
Being that it is a Week Two bout will be good for both teams to get one game under their belt before taking on one of the best teams in the country. The main storyline for the game will be on the offensive side of the ball with the quarterback and the receiver.
This is a battle between two of the top four quarterbacks in America and two of the top two wide receivers in America.
Julian Sayin versus Arch Manning and Jeremiah Smith versus Jeremiah Smith will be the main storyline, but the rest of the teams beyond those guys are elite everywhere.
Texas on offense is full of transfers. They will have three transfer running backs and an offensive line that was rebuilt through the transfer portal. Head coach Steve Sarkisian said that their "ability to create explosive plays is showing up" coming out of Spring Ball.
On defense, the Longhorns will be led by historic coach Will Muschamp, who has been on Georgia's staff for four out of the last five years. Muschamp will feature an attacking style defense that is led by Colin Simmons, Ty'Anthony Smith, and Jelani McDonald in the back end.
Just as Ohio State is back with a vengeance in 2026, so are the Longhorns, and they are coming for it all next year.
It starts in what will be an absolute war in Week Two between the Buckeyes and the Longhorns.
