Can't Wait For Saturday My guess: Big Ten takes five in a row … at least

Jan. 21—
Technically, the SEC won the "battle for the most ranked teams" over the Big Ten 7-6. Of course, the Big Ten got the big one (Indiana) and had three in the top five compared to the SEC's one.
If we want to throw out a more arbitrary number than Top 25, say Top 27, then the Big Ten gains an 8-7 edge with Illinois and Washington the next two receiving votes in The Associated Press Top 25.
The two leagues are in a power position that I don't see changing. Miami looks like the real deal representing the ACC. But the league is light on depth and still might break up in the upcoming years.
The Big 12 appears stronger than I thought. Texas Tech is not going anywhere and the additions to the conference in recent years have enhanced the football brand. Basketball with Kansas, Arizona, Iowa State, etc. is loaded. But this is a football question.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Big Ten seems like a good bet to defend its national title. Indiana could go into the season at No. 1 or 3 or 3. Ohio State, with the return of its star quarterback and receiver, is capable of beating anybody.
Beyond the Big Two in the Big Ten is less certain. Michigan has a new coach. So does Penn State. Both should be better immediately. Southern California has a world of potential and a loaded recruiting class. UCLA hired a good coach. So did Michigan State.
Big Ten commish Tony Petitti picked a good time to join the league. Three titles in a row could soon become five or six.
