Can't Wait For Saturday Of course, Michigan got lucky … as it often does

At Michigan, they are hailing the victors. But everyone not wearing Maize and Blue-tinged glasses thinks they lost.

Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich., the Wolverines rallied for a ridiculous 13-12 win against Western Michigan. At least that is how it will read in the record books.

What you saw with your own eyes tells a different story. The clock ran out on Michigan. It said so on TV. But after a conversation with the home office at the Big Ten, officials put a second back on the clock and gave the home team one more play. And Bryce Underwood's Hail Mary was caught by JJ Buchanan for the game-winner.

The Broncos could have avoided the loss by simply knocking down Underwood's pass. After watching it about 20 times, Western Michigan was out of position on the last throw. But it should have never had to face the moment. Again, the clock ran out on Michigan the previous play. Only to see its hopes come back to life thanks to the officials.

The Big Ten put out a statement along with a video. As it had to do. The integrity of the game is vital and the conference is trying to protect it.

A better move by the Big Ten would have been to admit it got it wrong and declare Western Michigan the winner. That was never going to happen.

Look at all the shenanigans the Big Ten allowed Michigan to get away with during the Jim Harbaugh era. Michigan is a brand the Big Ten values above most others and it will go to great lengths to secure it.

Lost in all of the timing controversy is how bad Michigan looked on the field. Especially the offense. New coach Kyle Whittingham said it best: We've got a lot of work to do. Better do it fast because Oklahoma comes to town Saturday. Good luck with that.
