Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney knows his Tigers are capable of finishing strong. But he’s aware the college football nation isn’t too familiar with who’ll star on his 2026 team. Leading to this Clemson team earning the “nobodies” label.

And that leads into Swinney’s big challenge this fall out in Death Valley.

Swinney got asked by the Clemson media who’s stood out during fall camps. The past two-time national title winner countered with this statement.

“Everybody’s just working. We’re just a bunch of nobodies,” Swinney explained. “We’ll see if anybody becomes somebody as we play some games.”

The Tigers lost one prominent star this offseason, though. Quarterback Cade Klubnik is off to the NFL. But Klubnik endured a rough 2025 campaign that damaged his past first round potential.

Then again, Clemson struggled all around. The Tigers flipped from 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference champions and College Football Playoff team, to underachieving at 7-6 and losing the Pinstripe Bowl.

So that explains why Swinney feels the pressure intensifying under his head coach’s seat. Clemson fans have grown restless and some have demanded Swinney’s dismissal. National and even local media have written off Swinney. But he addressed that in fierce fashion during ACC Media Days.

“This year, ain’t none of y’all going to pick us. Ain’t none of y’all going to say anything good about us. I’ve been dead. I’m gone. I think I’m still here, all right? But it’s not about that either. It never has been,” Swinney said. “If it was about what people predicted, I would have been gone a long time ago. All right? It’s about what you do. That’s what it’s about.”

Now his hope is that there’ll be a somebody among the “nobodies” who breaks out.
