Clemson Football Recruiting Needs in the Class of 2027: Offense

Earlier this summer we took a quick look at how Clemson’s roster is positioned for the 2026 season. But recruiting is a 24/7 effort in college football which means we have to focus on class of 2027. Clemson has historically had their class wrapped up, minus 2-3 commits, heading into the season. That has changed in the world of NIL and the Transfer Portal, but the Tigers have had an excellent summer and are well positioned with 25 commits. Far better positioned than what we’ve seen in recent years.
As a reminder, the recent NCAA eligibility change means players have 5 years to play 5 seasons. Redshirting, etc. isn’t the thing it used to be. A freshman is in their first year on campus, sophomore second year, etc. with the final year being denoted as a 5th year player. When we project future needs it helps add certainty in an era of chaos
QB: 5 (2 senior, 1 Sophomore, 2 Freshman)
It always comes down to the QB. It is always great to have a number of options at QB, but nowadays you get QB #1 and maybe, just maybe you get a talented freshman for a year who takes over from your veteran QB aging out after that season. Depth is going to come from transfers or guys who just don’t have the juice to become a starter elsewhere. This year Clemson fits more into the former, or at least we hope so. Good news is the numbers look good here, it is just going to be about execution.
RB: 5 (3 Senior, 1 Junior, 1 Sophomore)
Let’s go ahead and circle the RB position as, “Potential transfer portal spot,” for next year. I can easily see some guys moving on, especially if they aren’t happy with the committee approach Dabo prefers. Depending on how the run game goes, it could be a great opportunity to bring in a talented back. Gary Walker is committed, but there is always room for another RB.
WR: 11 (1 Fifth Year, 2 Seniors, 2 Juniors, 1 Sophomore, 5 Freshman)
This is another spot I would expect a few transfers, especially if they don’t enjoy blocking on the perimeter. My suspicion is the numbers will even out here with Cole Turner leaving and 3 commits coming in. But unless there is a real game changer in the portal or coming out of HS I don’t think anything changes here from what you see today. And yes, one of Clemson’s commits is Julian Cromartie, the son of Antonio Cromartie. I’ve got an extra walker for anyone that needs it.
TE: 5 (1 Senior, 1 Junior, 2 Sophomore, 1 Freshman)
Barring a shock, it’s unlikely we see any drastic changes here. Maybe someone leaves in the portal, but with two commits already it is hard to see movement here.
OL: 19 (2 Fifth Year, 3 Senior, 3 Junior, 4 Sophomore, 7 Freshman)
Thankfully with the roster changes Dabo seems to be increasing the OL numbers. Even though the 19 includes players that would have historically been walk ons, another 4 commits in the class of 2027 will push the Tigers to 21 OL before transfers. That’s a good spot to be in.
