Clemsonfootball is looking for more ways to get one of its most explosive athletes involved this season.
Offensive coordinator Chad Morris revealed during Tuesday’s Clemson Media Day that quarterback Chris Denson will take on a hybrid role in 2026, lining up at both wide receiver and running back while continuing to get some work at quarterback.
“We’re trying to find a spot for him,” Morris said.
The move reflects Clemson’s desire to get the ball into Denson’s hands more often after he flashed his playmaking ability as a true freshman last season. While he remains part of the quarterback room, the Tigers appear ready to use his athleticism in a variety of ways.
Denson gave fans a glimpse of what he can do late last season during Clemson’s win over Furman. He completed all four of his pass attempts for 22 yards and a touchdown while adding 108 rushing yards and another score on just seven carries. His performance quickly made him a fan favorite and sparked excitement about how the Tigers could use him moving forward.
Clemson also showed confidence in Denson’s versatility during the 2025 season by preparing a special package for him when Cade Klubnik dealt with an ankle injury before the SMU game. Although Denson saw just one snap in that contest, the coaching staff’s willingness to create a role specifically for him hinted that bigger plans could be on the way.

Now those plans are becoming reality. Rather than limiting Denson to quarterback, Clemson is expanding his responsibilities in hopes of creating more opportunities for one of the roster’s most dynamic athletes to impact games. Heading into the 2026 season, he’ll be one of the Tigers’ most intriguing offensive weapons.
