The rapper says becoming a mother gave her a new perspective on her relationship with her father after years of public tension.
Coi Leray and Benzino have repaired their relationship after years of public disagreements. The BET Awards nominee, who announced her first pregnancy in January 2025, said motherhood helped her understand her father differently.
Speaking on the September 16 episode of “The Jason Lee Show,” covered by Complex, Leray said the two are communicating regularly again. Her daughter, Miyoco, has become part of that renewed connection, with Benzino frequently calling to speak to his granddaughter.
“Me and my dad are really cool now. Like I love him so much,” Leray said.
She explained that he reaches out on FaceTime roughly every other day. Miyoco, whom Leray shares with rapper Trippie Redd, calls her grandfather “pop pop.”
Leray said their conversations have changed as she has grown older. She is now able to discuss things with her father that she would not have been able to address in the past, and she welcomed the chance to rebuild their bond at this point in their lives.
The reconciliation follows several years in which their family disagreements became public. In 2021, Leray expressed disappointment in her father on “No More Parties,” prompting a back-and-forth between them online.
Becoming a parent has given Leray another perspective on those tensions. She described how caring for a child and taking on the responsibility of providing for her family helped her better understand some of her father’s experiences.
For Coi Leray and Benzino, moving forward also involves changing how they handle their disagreements. Leray said they have agreed to keep those matters off the internet rather than continue addressing each other publicly.
She made clear that reconciliation does not erase the past.
“We forgive, we just don’t forget,” she said.
Their renewed contact now gives Miyoco the chance to build her own relationship with her grandfather while Leray and her father continue working on theirs.
