College football game day thread

Even though Los Angeles Rams fans are still in the process of tracking roster cuts and projecting the opening 53, D1 college football kicks off today with an abbreviated slate of games. Week 1 opens with three interesting quarterbacks in action, Jaden Craig (TCU), Jayden Maiava (USC), and Beau Pribula (Virginia). Maiava is getting plenty of early run, Craig is an under-the-radar prospect, and Pribula had a steady 2025 at the SEC level.

Here’s a few games TST will keeping an eye on.

TCU vs North Carolina

9 am from Dublin, Ireland on ESPN

Eyes on: TCU 

QB Jaden Craig comes in from Harvard and looks to show off his all-round game. He’s definitely a sleeper on Top QB list’s. Ben Taylor-Whitfield is the LT to watch. WR Jordan Dwyer is a playmaker. Jeremy Payne is penciled in as RB#1 and looks to show he’s more than a speed back. The Horned Frog defense is strong up the middle with NT Markis Deal and DT Ansel Din-Mbuh. E Paul Oyewale is the outside pass rush and Jamel Johnson is a tough strong safety.

Eyes on: North Carolina

Can Bill Belichek get things back on track? He reportedly has 10-12 starters coming into the program as starters. QB Billy Edwards is on his fourth college stop with one year as a starter (2024) under his belt.

San Jose St @ USC

12:00 pm on NBC

Eyes on: USC

Offense: QB Jayden Maiava is already getting Round 1 buzz. He’ll be tested, throwing to a very young group of receivers. All of his wide outs are freshmen and sophomores as is his tight end. The Trojans have two stout running backs, Waymond Jordan and King Miller. Defense: Lincoln Riley coached teams are not known for their defense. Even so, CB Jontez Williams is solid in the secondary, while edge Kameryn Crawford and defensive tackle Jadi Abisiri add muscle up front.

North Carolina St. @ Virginia

12:30 pm on ESPN

Eyes on: Virginia

Offense: Two SEC transfers, former Mizzou QB Beau Primula and Tennessee RB Peyton Lewis man the backfield. They’ll work works behind an offensive line that boasts all five starters as fifth, sixth, and seventh year seniors. Defense: E Fisher Camac and LB Kam Robinson are the leaders.

Eyes on: North Carolina State

Offense : QB EJ Bailey runs the show and needs to show that he’s ready to be be compared with college football’s top prospects. Prototype frame and arm, he needs to show improved accuracy in the short and mid depth’s. Defense: King Mack covers the field at free safety.

New Mexico St. @ Florida St.

4 pm on CW 

Eyes on: Florida State

Head coach Mike Norvell sits atop all the coaching “Hot Seat” lists. RB Tre Wisner comes east from Texas, while towering Duce Robinson and speedy Micahi Danzy are the wideouts to watch. Auburn transfer Ashton Daniels is the likely QB. On defense, CB Ja’Bril Rawls is a top prospect.

Memphis @ UNLV

7 pm on FOX

Eyes on: UNLV

Rebs Coach Dan Mullen has brought his brand of SEC football to the desert. Coming off a 10-4 season, he’s reportedly playing two transfer QB’s in the opener, Jackson Arnold from Auburn and Alex Orji from Michigan. Running back Jai’Den Thomas is a breakaway threat.
