College Football: St. Thomas returns home, thumps Northern Michigan

One week after being handled by eighth-ranked North Dakota, the St. Thomas football team returned home and turned the tables in Saturday’s game against Northern Michigan.
The Tommies rolled up 496 yards of offense to defeat the visiting Wildcats 56-14 at O’Shaughnessy Stadium in St. Paul.
St. Thomas quarterback Nick Peipert threw for 270 yards while completing 15 of 27 passes with two touchdowns and one interception on his stat line. Jack Wallace also went 3 for 3 with 41 yards passing and one touchdown toss in limited duty.
It was a varied and generous passing offense for the hosts as eight UST receivers logged at least one catch for 17 yards. Pierce McCrary led the receiving corps with three catches for 69 yards, while Eli Paulson hauled in a team-high five catches for 64 yards.
Gabriel Abel and Noah Long tied for the top rushing honors, as each ran for 44 yards; Abel was the Tommies’ top scorer in the game with three touchdowns on his scorecard.
St. Thomas (2-1) remained undefeated at O’Shaughnessy with its second home win of the season. Northern Michigan (0-3) stayed winless with its third lopsided loss of the autumn.
The Tommies remain home next week with a 1 p.m. kickoff against Southern Utah next Saturday afternoon.
