ESPN’s College GameDay has not bathed itself in glory (to say the least) to start the 2026-27 college football season, but the iconic show still knows how to pick a good location.
Morgan Freeman graced the set as the Week 3 guest picker, GameDay visited Iowa City, Iowa for the first time in 20 years in Week 4 — even if Pat McAfee ruined it — and Nick Saban made his triumphant return to Alabama this Saturday.
That trend will continue, as College GameDay announced it will visit Provo, Utah, next Saturday:

“Cougar fans, it’s been awhile,” the official College GameDay account posted. “We’re headed to Provo for the first time since 2009 for Notre-Dame BYU [exclamation point emoji].”
The No. 8 BYU Cougars (5-0) trampled Iowa State, while the No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-0) played an entirely different sport than Stanford to win 58-7 on Saturday to set up a high-stakes undefeated clash next week. The game will air at 6:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
While it’s presumably exciting for BYU fans and students to host the GameDay crew on campus, the football team might be less than thrilled.
“It will be the second time BYU has hosted the program,” Jason Batacao wrote of GameDay for The Salt Lake Tribune. “The first one didn’t end too well for the Cougars, with TCU routing BYU 38-7. Overall, the Cougars are 0-4 all-time when featured on ‘GameDay.’ Can they break the ‘GameDay’ curse against the Irish?”
So far this season, the GameDay guest pickers have been Lainey Wilson, Glen Powell, Morgan Freeman, Johnny Knoxville, Caitlin Clark, and Bryce Young. BYU presents plenty of compelling options — Ken Jennings or Steve Young, anyone? — but Kyle Van Noy might be an easy choice, given the Minnesota Vikings’ Week 6 bye week.
