'College GameDay' Shared Lee Corso's Last Headgear Pick For 91st Birthday

2026 will mark the first year in the history of ESPN's College GameDay where the great Lee Corso won't be at the desk. But today marks Coach Corso's 91st birthday and the show decided to honor the legend with a special tribute.

Taking to X, College GameDay shared the video of his final Headgear Selection from Week 1 of last season for the massive Ohio State vs. Texas game. Corso picked the Buckeyes to win and donned his "first love," Brutus Buckeye, to pick them to win. Ohio State went on to win the game 14-7.

"Coach Corso is turning 91 today! Will forever get teary-eyed watching his final headgear pick," College GameDay posted.

Some might have forgotten by now, but not only did Corso nail his pick of Ohio State, he went a perfect 6-for-6 on picks in his sendoff show. He also called Tennessee to take down Syracuse, South Carolina over Virginia Tech, Miami to upset Notre Dame, LSU to upset Clemson and – in one of the most stunning picks of the day – unranked Florida State to take down Alabama.

Tributes to Corso

Fans are still sad that Coach Corso won't be a part of College GameDay anymore. Some feel that his headgear selections were among the only reasons they'd watch it in the first place.

"Happy birthday to an absolute college football treasure. Coach Corso made Saturday mornings feel like Saturday mornings," one fan replied.

"I will miss his headgear. Only reason I watched GameDay, as y'all didn't get the Big10, and I'm a Buckeye," another user on X lamented.

"Happy birthday coach, you taught me a lot about football, and even more about having a good time," wrote a third.

Lee Corso puts on the Brutus helmet as he makes his final pick between Kirk Herbstreit and Pat McAfee prior to the NCAA football game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Texas Longhorns at Ohio Stadium on Aug. 30, 2025.

2026 will mark the start of a new era for College GameDay and for many, it's not an era that they're looking forward to.

Even in response to that post on X, many have complained that they don't see the combined efforts of Nick Saban and Pat McAfee as a suitable replacement for Coach Corso.
