Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes began the 2026 campaign with historic achievements, escaping with a 14-13 road upset win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Thursday night.
Sanders started his fourth season as the Buffaloes’ head coach, looking to elevate the program back to great heights. Following a bowl game appearance in Year 2, Colorado regressed the next season. Sanders looks for this campaign to be different, which it might be after beating Georgia Tech.
The game went down to the wire as Colorado’s defense contained the opposing attack, even stopping a field goal from going through. As for their own offense, they got a game-winning touchdown in the final minute as they made history in the process, per ESPN Insights.

How Colorado played against Georgia Tech
Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes will surely have relief to start the season with a stunning road win over Georgia Tech. It could be a promising sign of things to come for the squad.
Both teams took time to get going, being scoreless after the first quarter. Georgia Tech led 10-7 at halftime, but its offense went cold as Colorado fought back on both sides of the ball. The Buffaloes’ touchdown in the last minute proved to be the decisive blow to the hosts’ chances of winning.
Julian Lewis had a decent showing after completing 13 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. The run game was more active with three players getting 10 or more carries. Damian Henderson II attempted 12 rushes for 65 yards, Micah Welch had 12 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown, while JaQuail Smith recorded 10 rushes for 42 yards.
Colorado will look forward to its next matchup, being at home. They host the Weber State Wildcats as the game takes place on Sept. 12.
