If you watched college football’s opening weekend, it was hard to get away from replays and ‘analysis’ on the Western Michigan – Michgan game. It looked like Western Michigan’s upset bid was complete when the Wolverine Hail Mary flew out of the back of the end zone and time expired.

Except, time had not expired, at least it had not according to the Big Ten office. Michigan got one more shot and brought down the pass for the win. FWIW, I actually do accept the Big Ten’s explanation on why one second was put back on the clock, but I still felt that Western Michigan earned that win. I was cheering for the upset the whole way.

Thinking back to Husker football fandom, we can commiserate with Broncos fans when thinking about plays that occurred with :01 on the clock.

Who can forget the 2009 Big 12 Championship? Ndamakong Suh took over that game in a way that I have never seen a college football player do – before or since. The ledger also includes the 2015 game vs BYU, which was Mike Riley’s first game as the Husker head coach. Maybe the football gods were trying to tell us to cut our losses and run with that one.

I wanted to end this section on a positive note – the Husker Hail Mary vs Northwestern, but that famous play started with :04 on the clock.

Am I missing any important plays in Husker history with :01 left? Feel free to include other sports besides football.
