The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 91 days away.
As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.
Here is a look at the past and present of No. 90 at LSU:
No. 90 – DT Stephiylan Green
Green comes in with two years of experience playing for the Clemson Tigers, where he was a large part of their defensive line rotation. He'll continue to rotate a lot with the Tigers in Baton Rouge, as they have ton of talent to go through at that position, allowing players to stay fresh for longer.
The Georgia native originally signed with Clemson as a four-star player. He racked up 34 tackles, 5.0 TFLs and 3.5 sacks over his two seasons in South Carolina. While he probably could have gone to the NFL draft and gotten drafted, he decided to head to LSU. Perhaps they will be better equipped to take advantage of his high ceiling as a defensive player.
No. 90 – P Grant Chadwick
Chadwick returns as the Tigers' starter for his second season after transferring over from the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders. He was a standout last year after getting a lot of chances to punt, thanks to the poor LSU offense. He averaged 45.7 yards per punt, which ranked No. 15 in the country for qualified punters.
The Tennessee native was named to the All-SEC third team, so it's not shocking to see the Tigers decide to run it back with him despite all the changes. There wasn't much to complain about with him. LSU also brought in a backup option in former Florida Gators punter Hayden Craig, who is still just a redshirt freshman.
Highlighting A Former Player Who Wore No. 90
DL Rashard Lawrence (2016-2019)
Lawrence came to the Tigers as an elite five-star recruit out of Monroe, La. It paid off as had a fantastic career at LSU and was a key part of the 2019 National Championship-winning team. He had 120 career tackles, 21 TFLs and nine sacks, which impressive for someone up the middle. He was a fourth-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2020, but mostly jumped around practice squads before moving on to the UFL, where he currently plays for the Houston Gamblers.
