Country music superstar Luke Combs managed to get Tennessee football legend Jason Witten in big trouble with Volunteers fans over the weekend during a concert in Norman, OK.

Country music superstar Luke Combs gave Tennessee Vols fans plenty to smile about a couple of weeks ago during a memorable concert at Neyland Stadium.

One of the highlights of the concert was when Combs brought Peyton Manning, Al Wilson, Joey Aguilar, and Josh Heupel to the stage to shotgun some beers.

Combs played another iconic college football stadium this past weekend, and this time around he gave Vols fans a reason not to smile.

Luke Combs brings Vols legend Jason Witten out on stage to represent the Oklahoma Sooners

Combs brought another Vols legend to the stage on Saturday night at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, but there were no signs of orange and white.

Former Tennessee tight end Jason Witten joined Combs on stage, but he wasn’t there to represent the Vols. Instead, Witten was there to represent the Oklahoma Sooners.

Witten, who played at Tennessee from 2000 to 2002, joined Oklahoma’s coaching staff as the program’s new tight ends coach earlier this offseason.

Former Sooners Creed Humphrey, Lane Johnson, and Danny Stutsman joined Witten on stage with Combs.

On one hand, it’s easy to understand why some Vols fans weren’t thrilled to see Witten on stage repping another SEC program.

But on the other hand, Heupel is football royalty in Norman after leading Oklahoma to a national championship as a player in 2000. Heupel is deeply committed to Tennessee (as evidenced by his appearance with Combs at Neyland), but he cares about his alma mater, too. I’m sure the exact same is true of Witten when it comes to his job with the Sooners and his love for the Volunteers.

Still, it’s always going to be a little unnerving for Vols fans to see a program legend representing an SEC rival.
