The Colorado State football team is on to its third starting quarterback of the season.

Darius Curry will start at QB when the Rams play at Boise State (5 p.m. Nov. 22, FS1).

Jackson Brousseau has started the last seven games, but was injured in the second half of a loss to New Mexico on Nov. 15. He is listed as out on the availability report submitted by CSU for the Boise State game. The first availability report of the week, as required by the Mountain West, was posted the night of Nov. 20.

Brousseau has completed 100 of 164 passes (61%) for 1,031 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions.

Curry has appeared in parts of four games, including playing most the second half for CSU at New Mexico. Curry is 44-61 (72%) for 447 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions this season.

Curry spent the first half of the season as the scout team quarterback, where he would face CSU’s top defense led by defensive coordinator and now interim coach Tyson Summers. While doing so, Curry worked closely with assistant quarterbacks coach Carson Strong.

“I think having to come down there and see the variety of defenses we play and coverage and all those things really helped (Curry). Carson was coaching him like he was getting him ready for a game every week,” Summers said.

“We were doing a call it period where Carson was calling it like he was the offensive coordinator for the other team and DC (Curry) was playing it out. I think all those things really helped us as he moved into the backup role over the course of the last few weeks.”

Curry is a redshirt freshman. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Curry was rated as a three-star recruit out of Long Beach Poly in California. He threw for 6,608 yards and 80 touchdowns in his high school career.

“He just never flinches. The kids have got confidence in him, they believe in him. As he moves forward, I think he’s going to be a really good player,” Summers said.

Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi was CSU’s starter to begin this season. He started the first three games, completing 44 of 82 passes (54%) for 488 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Fowler-Nicolosi was benched during CSU’s third game and has since left the program.

With Fowler-Nicolosi gone and Brousseau injured, Tahj Bullock would likely be the backup to Curry if needed. Bullock has appeared in seven games this season mostly as a “wildcat” running QB option.

More injury woes for Colorado State

Beyond Brousseau’s injury, there are many more significant issues continuing to stack for CSU on the injury front.

Tight ends Rocky Beers and Carlos Anaya are listed as questionable for the Boise State game. Tight end Ryan McConnell is listed as out (tight end Jaxxon Warren is a longtime absence who is out for the season).

Receiver Kojo Antwi is another new addition and he’s listed as out for the season. Defensive backs Dagan Myers and AJ Noland are also out for the season.

CSU has 23 players listed on the availability report for the Boise State game, with 20 of them listed as out (three are questionable).
