Deion Sanders, Colorado football team give classy gesture after stunning Georgia Tech

The Colorado Buffaloes opened the 2026 college football season with a thrilling 14-13 win over Georgia Tech on Thursday night. But after the dramatic victory, Deion Sanders made sure his players handled the moment with respect.
Speaking to his team in the locker room, Sanders reminded the Buffaloes to clean up after themselves before leaving. He also urged them to respect Georgia Tech after the Yellow Jackets pushed Colorado to the final seconds.

“Let’s make sure the locker room is clean when we leave. Let’s be respectful, don’t say nothing crazy about our opponents because they fought their butts off,” Sanders told his players.
“I have a lot of respect for their head coach and their coaching staff. They play really, really well,” he added.
Sanders then turned his attention to his players and praised them for their belief throughout the game.
“I love you, I appreciate you, but more than ever, I’m proud of you and I never gave up on you,” Sanders said, with the players responding in unison, “Yes, sir!”
Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes complete stunning comeback
The Buffaloes trailed 13-7 late in the fourth quarter before freshman quarterback Julian Lewis delivered when it mattered most.
Lewis connected with tight end Charlie Williams for a 20-yard touchdown with 42 seconds remaining, putting Colorado ahead 14-13. Lewis finished 14-of-27 for 124 yards and one touchdown.
Georgia Tech immediately created another chance. Alberto Mendoza found Dalen Penson for a 42-yard gain, moving the Yellow Jackets into field-goal range.
However, Colorado defensive back Boo Carter blocked Aidan Birr’s 45-yard attempt as time expired. The play sparked a celebration as the Buffaloes escaped with the win.

Sanders said his players never stopped believing.
“You have no idea how many times I was shaken by a lineman and told that we got this, and I never doubted it,” Sanders said.
The victory gave Colorado its first 1-0 start since Sanders’ debut season in 2023. The Buffaloes will host Weber State on Sept. 12.
