Deshler routs Priceville as Bulldogs suffer first loss of the season

Sep. 19—TUSCUMBIA — Priceville's undefeated season suffered its first blemish Friday night, and it came in brutal fashion.

The Bulldogs were dominated by Deshler 51-7, with the Tigers outscoring them 31-0 in the second half.

"It was a tight game at halftime, and we thought we had a shot. Some things happened in the second half that didn't go our way, and it just kind of got away from us," Priceville head coach Austin Burke said.

Priceville came into Friday's game 4-0 and ranked No. 9 in Class 4A, but the Bulldogs were dealt a black eye in their first loss of the season. The Bulldogs high-powered offense, which came in averaging more than 40 points per game, was held to just 180 total yards and seven first downs with three turnovers. Meanwhile, the defense allowed 579 yards and 28 first downs, including nine third-down conversions.

"We're going to have to learn how to rally to the ball and tackle because we're not very good at it right now," Burke said.

Deshler quarterback Brycen Williams led the Tigers with 308 yards passing, 96 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Armani Jones rushed for 96 yards and three touchdowns, while Jeremiah Fletcher had eight catches for 93 yards receiving and a score.

Priceville's Zavion Camel rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown, and Tripp Sivley had three catches for 66 yards.

Priceville falls to 4-1 on the season, while Deshler moves up to 4-1. Both teams will have a bye next week.

"We're going to be off next week, which is good for us because we have a lot of work to do," Burke said. "There's still a lot of football to be played, but we have to get a lot better."
