Desmond Howard speaks out ahead of Saturday’s Michigan-Oklahoma clash

It has been almost a week since Michigan somehow beat Western Michigan in Week 1.

A review put one second left on the clock after it appeared the game was over, allowing Wolverines quarterback Bryce Underwood to launch one last Hail Mary. Wide receiver JJ Buchanan caught it, allowing Michigan to escape with a 13-12 win.

Despite throwing the Hail Mary, Underwood didn’t play well, finishing with only 170 yards through the air, one touchdown and one interception. He also had 47 yards rushing and a touchdown.

“College GameDay” analyst Desmond Howard, who played at Michigan, thinks Underwood deserves criticism for the way he played, but also thinks the entire team deserves criticism. He knows that won’t fly against the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday.

“Anyone who watched that game, Michigan versus Western Michigan last Saturday night, there’s absolutely no way you come away with the opinion that, man, that whole game was on Bryce Underwood, the quarterback. Does he deserve criticism? Absolutely. Does the defense deserve criticism? 100 percent. Does the special teams deserve criticism? Absolutely. There’s nobody who wore that maize uniform that night, that should escape any criticism, and it also should start with the coaches,” Howard said on “First Take.”

Michigan will need to be better in all facets if it hopes to score an early-season upset against Oklahoma.

Ann Arbor will be raucous ahead of a noon ET kickoff on Fox. Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt will have the call.
