Despite recent recruiting miss, Texas A&M's future secondary is set

On Wednesday, Texas A&M lost the first battle for 2027 five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, who committed to South Carolina after being predicted to land with the Aggies for several months, but after Dobson stated that his recruitment is “long from over,” you can be sure that coach Mike Elko and cornerbacks coach Bryant Gross-Armiento will continue to pursue the elite defensive back.

Combined with losing out on fellow five-star cornerback John Meredith, who committed to Texas late last month, it’s important to note that Texas A&M’s future secondary is in solid shape despite losing both recruiting battles this summer, especially knowing that newly minted five-star cornerback Raylaun Henry is firmly committed and likely close to shutting down his recruitment.

While Dobson and Meredith are considered the top man coverage cornerbacks in the 2027 class, securing commitments from rising three-star defensive backs Errol Kerns and Loia Valade has flown under the radar nationally, and paired with four-star athlete Hakeem Frampton, who is expected to play cornerback with the Aggies, Texas A&M’s future CB rotation is built on speed and potential.

At safety, five-star Kamarui Dorsey and four-star JayQuan Snell both shut down their recruitments and represent Texas A&M’s future starting safety duo, who perfectly match each other’s skill sets, and with senior safeties Dalton Brooks and Marcus Ratcliffe set to depart after the 2026 season, make Dorsey and Snell’s additions even more vital.

This season, Texas A&M’s cornerback rotation includes veterans Dezz Ricks, Julio Humphrey, Tennessee transfer Rickey Gibson III, and Adonyss Currie, while Jordan Shaw and former safety Bryce Anderson will compete for the starting nickel job. From the 2026 signing class, five-star CB Brandon Arrington will more than likely see the field this season after an impressive spring performance.
