Ashton Daniels will remain the Tigers starting quarterback this week against Vanderbilt, interim head coach DJ Durkin announced on Wednesday.

Daniels threw for 108 yards on 13-for-28 passing in his first start against Kentucky before he was benched in the fourth quarter by now former head coach Hugh Freeze. Auburn failed to score a touchdown in the 10-3 loss.

However, after Freeze's firing on Sunday, Daniels gets the nod over Jackson Arnold, who began the year as the starter. He was also benched by Freeze after throwing a pick-six against Arkansas two weeks ago. Daniels entered the game and led Auburn to a comeback win as it secured its first SEC victory of the season.

"I’ve really been trying to spend time with those guys on that side of the ball, just to hear from them, both players and coaches," Durkin said. "We made a decision as a staff. Ashton Daniels will be our starting quarterback.”

The Stanford transfer has completed 19-of-36 passes for 185 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in five quarters worth of work in two games.

Auburn faces No. 16 Vanderbilt on Saturday (4 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
