He hoped to start against Prairie View A&M this Saturday, but that won’t happen. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Lagway is not expected to play, paving the way for junior quarterback Nate Bennett to start.

Thamel posted Baylor doesn’t expect Lagway to be out long term.

This will be Bennett’s first career start for the Bears. He has thrown for 53 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions across two seasons.

DJ Lagway’s Florida tenure

Going back to Lagway, this is his first season with the Bears after spending the previous two seasons with the Florida Gators. He finished the 2024 season with 1,915 yards through the air, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

He then compiled 2,264 yards through the air, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions last season before transferring to the Bears.

Baylor’s Week 2 contest

The Bears will look to secure their first win of the 2026 college football season on Saturday. Kickoff will be at 8:08 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
