Penn State will have some of its toughest games of the season over the next couple of weeks, with the hope and expectation that this team will play much better football than it has recently.

It's unfortunate that Penn State finds itself in this position, but it's the reality of what's happened over the past year or so.

Had Penn State been better last season, James Franklin might still be at the helm. Unfortunately for Penn State fans who wanted Franklin around, his time eventually ran dry, and the Nittany Lions decided to go with head coach Matt Campbell.

If there's one positive about Penn State and the community, it's that former players will always show love.

That includes former quarterback Drew Allar, who was selected in the third round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the most recent draft.

Allar faced a lot of adversity at Penn State, but for the most part, he was one of the better quarterbacks in the country.

Speaking to reporters, he said that he's still a big fan of Penn State and wants it to reach new heights. At the same time, he has a lot of respect for Franklin and hopes that he does well too.

“From everything I’ve heard, they really respect that coaching staff, and that doesn’t really surprise me at all,” Allar said, per Penn Live. “Now it’s going to be a challenging game that they go on the road against Northwestern this week on a Friday night where they’re opening their new stadium. But it’s a great opportunity for them to just bounce back and have a really good game.”

“I’m hoping they [Penn State] can take the next step, and then same with Virginia Tech,” Allar said. “Putting Virginia Tech back on the map as a true blue blood program would be really cool to see. I think that’d be great for college football in general.”

Allar has always been a stand-up guy and has said the right things.

This isn't somebody who is going to come out and blast anybody for any of the decisions made over the past 12 months.

Allar also understands he's part of why things went the way they did last season. Had the team been better last year, we'd be looking at a much different roster, expectations, and much more. Penn State will have to hope that it can get back to the heights that it reached with Franklin, hoping to even accomplish more than it did then.
