East Tennessee State transfer offensive lineman Johnathan Cline is committing to Miami via the portal, On3 has learned. He just finished up his redshirt sophomore season. He previously played for UCF, as well.

Cline played high school football at Cartersville (Cartersville, GA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 914 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted algorithm that compiles all major recruiting media services.

The 2025-26 college football transfer portal lasted 15 days, spanning from Jan. 2 to Jan. 16. Players have had just over two weeks to enter the portal, but they’re not under a deadline to commit when they enter. Traditionally, the cut-off for committing has been how late a school can enroll a player through admissions, which varies throughout the sport.

Meanwhile, Duke transfer quarterback Darian Mensah committed to Miami earlier this week, per On3’s Pete Nakos. For the third consecutive transfer portal cycle, Mario Cristobal’s program landed arguably the top transfer quarterback.

Mensah and Duke had been entrenched in a legal battle for over a week, but a recently announced settlement agreement allowed the quarterback to enroll at Miami. The expectation since he announced his plans to transfer on Jan. 16 was that he would ultimately land with the Hurricanes.

Mensah immediately makes Miami a top team in the ACC and a national champion contender in 2026. The Hurricanes are coming off their first national title game appearance since 2002. Miami has landed Cam Ward and Carson Beck out of the portal the last two years, and now they land Mensah.

Mensah threw for 3,646 yards with 30 touchdowns and a 68% completion percentage in 2025, leading Duke to an ACC championship. His total passing yards ranked No. 3 in FBS in 2025, leading the ACC. He was fifth in FBS in passing touchdowns, too.

His top wide receiver, Cooper Barkate, is following him to Miami, too. Barkate finished the 2025 season with 72 catches for 1,106 yards.
