Notre Dame has landed a commitment from elite 2027 defensive end Abraham Sesay, who is one of the best players in the country. The 6-5, 225-pound end from Downingtown, Pa./East picked the Fighting Irish over LSU, Florida State, Duke and Penn State.
Notre Dame offered Sesay in November, but it wasn't until Charlie Partridge arrived that the Irish staff started to ramp things up with him. Once that happened, the Irish quickly became a top school for the talented edge rusher. By the time Sesay got to his April visit to South Bend the Irish had become his top school. That remained true until today, when he announced his commitment to Notre Dame.
Landing Sesay gives the Irish one of the nation's best edge rushers and overall players. He ranks as the No. 16 player in the country by Rivals/On and ranks as the No. 22 overall player by 247Sports. Irish Breakdown ranks him as a 4.5-star (Top 50) player with 5.0-star upside. By the time he completes his senior season he'll likely be an easy 5.0-star recruit.
As a junior, Sesay racked up over 80 tackles and 13 sacks to go with over 20 tackles for loss. His dominant junior season — which also included him being a big play tight end — ended with him earning first-team All-State honors in Pennsylvania.
Sesay is an explosive edge rusher with elite length and power. Despite his lack of ideal weight at the moment, Sesay has a great frame that will allow him to easily get to at least 250 pounds after some time in the Notre Dame strength program. He has impressive natural pop and his explosiveness and fluid athletic skill are traits the make him a five-star recruit. He's a heady football player that shows good discipline and he makes good reads on the ball. Sesay is a big time playmaker already at the prep level, but as he fills out and enhances his technical game he projects to be just as dominant at the next level.
Landing Sesay gives Notre Dame three big time edge players in the 2027 class, as he joins big time New Jersey standouts Jackson Vaughn and Aidan O'Neil. It was important for Notre Dame to land another big time edge class, and the trio of Sesay, Vaughn and O'Neil gives them that. It will be hard for any college in the country to land a better group of edge players than the one that Notre Dame now has committed.
Sesay is the 18th player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2027 class. He joins Florida quarterback Champ Monds, Texas running back Lathan Whisenton, Massachusetts running back Isaiah Rogers, Colorado wide receiver Jackson Coleman, Oklahoma tight end Titus Hawk, New Jersey offensive lineman Olu Olubobola, Pennsylvania offensive lineman James Halter, California offensive lineman Jackson Hill, Wisconsin offensive lineman Richie Flanigan, Vaughn, O'Neil, Illinois defensive tackle David Folorunsho, North Carolina cornerback Xavier Hasan, Ohio cornerback Ace Alston, Florida safety Zayden Gamble and Florida nickel John Gay III.
The Downingtown East star earned offers from Ohio State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Oregon, Michigan, USC, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Penn State, Florida State, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Maryland, Duke, Georgia Tech, California, Syracuse and Rutgers.
