The Auburn Tigers have not had a winning season since the 2020 season. That was the final season under head coach Gus Malzahn after a 6-5 season. Since that year, the Tigers have suffered five consecutive seasons with seven losses.
A big step for new head coach Alex Golesh will be getting the Tigers over the .500 mark. The ESPN FPI predictions have Auburn closing the season with a projected record of 6.7-5.4, with a 70.6% chance of winning six games.
The key to picking up that winning season will be in the first four games of the season. They open with the Baylor Bears in Atlanta in week one. Then, they will have home games versus Southern Miss, Florida, and Vanderbilt. ESPN has the Tigers predicted to win each one. The Florida game is close, though, with Auburn just at a 51.6% chance of victory.
Then, they have Auburn losing four straight games versus Tennessee, at Georgia, LSU, and at Ole Miss. If that prediction holds, Auburn will be 4-4 heading into the final four games. The good news is Auburn is predicted to go 3-1 with wins over Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Samford. The ESPN FPI predictor has Auburn losing the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa versus Alabama. The Tigers have not won at Bryant-Denny since the 2010 "Cam Back" game.
