Nothing went right for Florida football in its first loss of the 2026 campaign. The Missouri Tigers spoiled Jon Sumrall's bid to continue his undefeated start with the Gators, handily beating them 45-17 at Faurot Field in Week 5.

Florida was held to just 42 yards on the ground and 325 yards overall on offense, while giving up a whopping 560 total yards on defense. Penalties also played a significant role in the defeat, with eight flags thrown (plus another that was declined) for 80 yards — several coming in critical moments.

It should come as no surprise, then, that Florida earned an "F" from CBS Sports writer David Cobb in his college football grades column, in which he evaluated every team that started or ended the day with national championship odds of plus-3000 or better according to FanDuel.

"The prematurely anointed Gators took a merciless beating, as Missouri eliminated Florida's alleged superpower of an elite rushing attack by holding Jadan Baugh to 13 yards on 12 carries," Cobb begins.

"The Tigers countered by giving the Gators a taste of their own medicine as Jamal Roberts totaled 211 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 24 carries. There was nothing redemptive about this performance, which came at the beginning of a month that also includes games against No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Georgia."

Florida will get a chance to recover from the embarrassing defeat this weekend in the Swamp, where it hosts the South Carolina Gamecocks for its annual homecoming game. The action kicks off early with a 12:45 p.m. ET start time and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.
