On Saturday evening, the Florida football program got off to a strong start to the 2026 college football season with a blowout home win over Florida Atlantic. The Gators ended up winning this one by a score of 66-21 in what was Jon Sumrall’s first game as head coach for the team.
Unfortunately, the Gators didn’t make it through this game unscathed from an injury perspective, as wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. left the game early.
Now, the team has gotten a rough update on his status moving forward.

“Florida wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. is doubtful for the Gators game against Campbell this week, per an ESPN source. Singleton left the FAU game on Saturday with an ankle injury. He’s a transfer from Auburn/Georgia Tech with 2,002 career receiving yards,” reported college football insider Pete Thamel of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.
Singleton Jr. was one of the prizes of the transfer portal period for the Gators this offseason, and the team is certainly hoping that the ankle injury isn’t anything that will keep him off the field over the long haul.
Florida saw a strong performance from new quarterback Aaron Philo on Saturday against FAU, throwing for 275 yards and three touchdowns on the day against an overmatched opponent.
The good news for Florida is that their next game is also against a smaller Campbell school, and the team shouldn’t theoretically need Singleton Jr. on the field in order to win.
Kickoff for that game is set for Saturday at 5:30 pm ET from The Swamp.
