Florida Gets Promising Outlook Ahead of Auburn Game for Reason Most Aren't Considering

Florida will have its first test of the season on Saturday, playing against an Auburn team that really hasn't been that good to start the year. 

Auburn was able to come away with a 17-16 win against Baylor and a 43-8 win against Southern Miss, but frankly, it didn't exactly look great in either of those victories.

While Florida has also started the season 2-0, beating Florida Atlantic and Campbell, I don't think most Gators fans would say this team has been perfect, at least on the defensive side. 

Offensively speaking, Florida has proven to have one of the best offenses in the entire country, and that's something that Jon Sumrall has to be impressed with. 

Despite that reality, two CBS writers actually believe that it's fair to say that Florida's defensive front is going to be the reason why it wins this game against Auburn, which I found very interesting.

“I don't think this game sets up well for Auburn,” Chris Hummer wrote. “Florida's defensive front is a strength, and the Tigers looked horrendous up front against Baylor, surrendering 22 pressures. And until I see it against high-level SEC competition, I'm going to have questions about Byrum Brown, who's been just OK this year since transferring in from South Florida. Give me the Gators on the road to make a statement.”

“Jon Sumrall and long-time buddy Alex Golesh both want it known this week that there's going to be no friendly banter between the hashes when these teams get together Saturday night at Jordan-Hare,” Brad Crawford said. “This should be one of the SEC's most competitive games of the weekend, and the right team is favored here since the Gators have the best player on the field — running back Jadan Baugh… Give him [win] No. 3 in Week 3.”

Hummer's points are very fair, and frankly, they make a lot of sense. 

However, I'm a tad worried because Florida's defense didn't impress me much in some of those games. 

That's not to say that it can't be better or that it was terrible, but it felt like there was more to give. If Auburn comes out and is clicking on the offensive side of things, I’ll get worried.
