Football Fans Applaud EA Sports For Removing Hated 'College Football 27' Addition

Let it never be said that you can't successfully bully a company into getting them to backtrack from a disdained decision. Football fans and video game fans alike are practically dancing in response to what they convinced EA Sports to do.

At the release of their new College Football 27 video game, fans were appalled to find that there had been paid progression options (microtransactions) in the Road to Glory and Online Dynasty modes. The game would charge anywhere from dozens to hundreds of dollars for players to increase the stats of their preferred player or coach in the signature modes.

Mass outrage ensued as just about every gaming outlet and sports outlet criticized EA Sports for the decision.

The Update

But last night, EA Sports did the one thing that fans had been begging them to do: They removed it.

In a post entitled "An update from the College Football 27 Team" on X. The development team announced that all paid progression options from the two modes would be removed. The team also pledged to be more transparent with major changes to next year's College Football 28 game.

"Thank you for your continued passion and for the incredible response to College Football 27," the statement said.

"We love this game and this sport. College Football is and will always be about the sights, sounds, pageantry, traditions and atmospheres of Saturday. In College Football 27, we aspired to deliver the deepest experience to date…

"Tomorrow morning, we will remove all paid progression options for Road to Glory and Online Dynasty. An unfortunate side effect of removing paid progression is that players that have College Point balances in their wallets will not be able to apply the balances in Road to Glory or Dynasty – so jump in between now and then [to] apply your points!

"Our goal for live service plans in CFB28 and beyond will be to deliver valuable features and content with greater transparency and communication.

"We've moving fast to respond to your feedback in-game so stay tuned for follow-up communications next week where we'll take you through more design details and share your goals for College Football 27…"

Gamers have praised EA Sports for listening to what the community was saying and many are celebrating that they were able to make a difference in the franchise they love through speaking up about it.

"Thank you for listening to the community."

"The community’s voice made a difference!"

"It’s the right thing to do."

"Not often a company admits their wrongs and listens to the fans and community. The cheers better be louder than the boos for this. Kudos EA."

"Thank you for doing the right thing!"

It certainly feels like a big win for gamers everywhere.
