Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Greg McElroy ranks no SEC teams inside of the top five in his preseason college football top 10 rankings. McElroy shared his top 10 rankings on his podcast "Always College Football."
"Every single year we put together a top 10 and someone in that top 10, at least one, maybe two, they won't be ranked by season's end," McElroy said. "Who's it going to be this year? We will find out."
McElroy does rank five SEC teams in his top 10. He puts the Georgia Bulldogs as his best SEC team, but has Georgia ranked behind No. 5 Miami, No. 4 Oregon, No. 3 Indiana, No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 1 Ohio State.
"Kirby Smart's program (is) kind of the most boringly elite operation in the sport," McElroy said. He thinks Georgia has a very high floor in 2026. He praises Georgia's consistency and roster retention. McElroy likes Georgia's backfield and thinks "the defense will certainly be one of the best in college football again" this fall.
McElroy notes that Georgia's offense is trying to be more explosive after suffering back-to-back losses in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff. He adds that Georgia should be able to run "heavy play action (and) hit big shots all the time" with how effective the Bulldogs are running the ball. He notes that the problem with Georgia is the that the Bulldogs lost many of their top receivers from last season.
Georgia should be contending for an SEC championship once again and has a strong roster, which is why McElroy says that UGA has the "highest floor in college football" with the Bulldogs having a more variable ceiling than most top teams.
